The end of marriage as we know it

Today, marriage in California has officially become corrupted. While those who engage in homosexual behavior line up for fraudulent "marriage" licenses that now recognize "Party A" and "Party B," polygamists wait in the wings for "Party C," "Party D," "Party E" and "Party F" to be added.

Barack Obama just gave a Father's Day sermon about how "black fathers are missing from too many lives and too many homes," while "respecting" and supporting the four judges on the California Supreme Court who overruled 4 million Californians who voted in 2000 to uphold marriage between one man and one woman – ensuring children both mom and a dad.

After seeing my pro-marriage button, a man on the Metro in Washington, D.C., put it this way: "The parts don't fit any other way." Men and women are uniquely designed to not only "fit," but to be able to procreate and contribute to the rearing of children in distinct and unique ways. No, Mr. Judge, a woman is not a dad, never will be. Marriage matters because it is the foundation of our society. Without it, civilization crumbles.

Unless California (and Massachusetts) reverses this, we don't have to speculate what is ahead. Embracing the homosexual agenda has already played out in Scandinavia.

Sweden was the first country in Europe to legalize homosexual unions in 1989, with Denmark and Norway following shortly behind. Stanley Kurtz, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, stated in his article "The End of Marriage in Scandinavia" the issue is not about "marriage for homosexuals," but rather "social approval for homosexuality," according to homosexual activists themselves. After nine years, only 2,372 homosexual couples took advantage of the Danish law allowing homosexual marriage. After four years, only 749 homosexual Swedes and only 674 homosexual Norwegians bothered to "get married." The issue is acceptance, and the outcome is the destruction of traditional marriage.

I am a practicing Catholic, born Catholic, served the Church and the church since 8 years old, and a firm believer in the Catholic faith. But I am bold enough to admit that I have no problem with gay marriage being institutionalized.

First, let's look at the bigger picture here. THIS GAY MARRIAGE IS NOT SANCTIFIED/BLESSED BY ANY RELIGION. This is merely, if you may, a union for legal and tax purposes; nothing more, nothing less. Keep in mind, no church, temple, mosque, or what have you, will officiate gay marriages. The municipalities, cities, and counties will officiate the marriage if voted for by the people. All these people are wanting are equal HUMAN rights with respect to the legal boundaries of the law. All they want are the same benefits that regular married couples get from the government. They are not asking for indulgence or blessing from any church. It's all about equality and being human.

Now, I've read the article, and I do agree that this might change society. But my question is, which society never changed? Isn't it that change is the only constant thing? And that without change there is no growth, and no advancement? How did we end up having this kind of society that we all enjoy anyway? Isn't it through the evolution of society?

Will it destroy the essence of what marriage is? I don't think so. It's about a union of two people under the government. Now, it will change what "union between two people" is, but all the same, it's a union; a LEGAL union.

The article also mentioned that this stamps society's acceptance of the gay community. My question is, didn't we accept, if not embrace, the fact that the gay community exists not too long ago? We befriend them. We even enjoy contests, pageants, and shows that gay people are involved in. We know that they cohabit. But did that really affect all of us as a society? So why should making it legal be any different.

Going back to the article, it mentioned that in Norway young people didn't want to get married because they feel embarrassed because of the association of marriage and homosexuality. Now, to me that is just a very ignorant remark. Gay people, aside their orientation, live the way we all do. They use the same products, eat the same, and go to the same places. So by association, shouldn't we all be embarrassed that we use, eat, and go places that gays have?

For those of you reading this might start to wonder why I support this marriage, so I would just to make it clear that I am not gay. The last time I checked, I still love my wife and that I like women. I don't even know anyone who is going to get married as a gay couple should this be approved. My reason for advocating this is to give what is due to a HUMAN BEING beyond his/her orientation. To me, this is not a matter of our religious belief. But rather, our belief in equality as a society. We are all against the injustice that discrimination brings. Why should we stop short on race, color, and gender? So come by the November elections, will I vote for it? Damn straight I am...

dude what's your beef? you afraid of a little change in society? I'm straight but I've got gay friends. Marriage is a union of people who care and love each other. So what's wrong with two people taking their relationship a step further? It's not like it's the end of the world or anything. Right?
