Two years to go before 2010. Before another election year comes. Before we see the same faces, the same cheer and jeers. The same ugliness and corruption. Another election year where the poor votes stupidly and the intelligent leaves the country.
I've read in the news that romy neri allegedly (I do mean allegedly) called GMA an evil president. Funny but it got me thinking. I asked myself who is the "most evil?" or most sinful to the country and the Filipinos in general among our political oligarchs, despots, and dynasties (that includes the communists and terrorists). I tried to think and came up with a very, very disturbing fact-that all of our politician have something to hide from us. Administration and opposition, both political mindsets are unclean, corrupt and unworthy to serve us. Hell even the so called "civil society-the religious and all" are themselves guilty of having hidden agendas. So with that in mind I tried to come up with my list of the "10 most evil" Filipinos, individuals and families.
This is just my point of view, you're all welcome to share yours
1. "The Marcoses"
-those who were born before the 90's know their sins all to well. This family and their cronies have had their hand in every kickback known to man and have been-to everyone's mind, behind the single most audacious event in our history- the assassination of Ninoy Aquino. Sad to say they are still here and not convicted after more than two decades. We can't even get back the money they stole from us.
2. "Joma Sison, CPP-NPA-NDF, BAYAN MUNA, LFS, KMU et al."
-borne out of Marcos tyranny, these guys have waged one of the longest insurgency conflicts in history. Killing is the name of their game. They wage their war in two fronts-the counrtyside and the cities. If they cannot gain control through bloodshed they will gain it through economic sabotage. This is terrorism under the guise of nationalism.
3. "The Abu-Sayaf"
-you know what I mean.
4. "The Cojuangcos"
-she may be Corazon C. Aquino, widow of Ninoy and former president but she is still a Cojuangco. Under her presidency we all saw the Mendiola Massacre, under her presidency came the CARP but up until now her family still refuses to give up Hacienda Luisita which resulted in the Luisita Massacre and it's white-washing. She goes to pray and goes to church and involves herself in many civil actions but she has yet to answer for the deaths of many farmers wanting to have land of their own.
5. "The Arroyos"
-Gloria might be good but she is a lame duck when it comes to disciplining her husband and sons. Hello Garci, Fertilizer Fund, South and North Rail, ZTE-NBN-there are just too many scams and scandals involving this family to count. Perhaps the only bright light in this family is quiet daughter Luli.
6. "The De Venecias"
-sorry but under the constituion you are not ALLOWED to involve relatives of any degree of consanguinity to bid and do business with the government. That's just common sense, and doesn't take a rocket scientist to know. This family is just sour-graping because the son was not able to get any kickback from the NBN deal.
7. "The Estradas"
-womanizing, gambling, kickbacks, name it he's done it. Caused the death of up and coming Urban Bank-then one of the top ten banks, which lead to the suicide of it's head honcho. Remember this banking exec who killed himself in front of his parents graves leaving behind a wife and young children? Is Loi just so blind to his ways or is the helmet on her head just so thick?
8. "Benjamin Abalos"
-now a name soon a legend. world-class power broker and scam artist. Turned the COMELEC into an institution of cheats. He should've been a stock broker instead.
9. "Ping Lacson"
-would've been an admirable senator if not for his name being connected to the "Kuratong Baleleng Rubout" case and the disappearance of Dacer and Corbito.
10. "Gregorio Honasan"
-let's talk about Greg, RAM leader, coup-plotter extaordinaire. Led coup attempts in the 80's that pitted Filipino soldier against Filipino soldier with the last being the bloodiest and involved the use of high-powered weaponry inside the makati central business district. Took over vital installations. Was defeated with the help of American F4 fighter jets from Clark. At least this guy got punished somehow.
There are many runners-up, particularly in the senate and many more in the house of representatives. Like those who voted for Erap's impeachment and who are now with the opposition. Loren, Manny, Mar, Kiko...HELLO! Where do your loyalties lie? Siblings Cayetano-their father got involved in the BW stock manipulation scam. The Catholic Church and Civil Society-they have to clean their dirty laundry first before they tell me to clean mine.
Well this is my list, my top ten "most evil" Filipinos. Some got caught, some are still running around scott-free. Let's just hope the silent majority wakes up this time and votes the right way this 2010. Please feel free to add yours to this list and maybe, if we can, maybe we can send them to our politicians to read. Perhaps maybe we can compile this into a list of politicians and political clans to avoid this 2010. Maybe...
(Feel free to add some more to this list, it's a free country anyway) :)

These people were made evil by an evil system that has crippled the country since the end of World War II.
In this evil system, economic power is in the hands of elite families, political power is in the hands of dynasties and warlords, and the Church supports this system by playing politics.
The evil system will corrupt even the most idealist leaders of this country, however motivated they are to change the system. This is a morally corrupt and bankrupt society that needs to be overhauled by force.
The Philippines needs a strong-arm leader in the mold of Lee Kuan Yew or Suharto or Mahathir bin Mohamad, and we need an incorruptible police force, depoliticized military and a fair justice system.
hit the nail right on the head. The difference is that Lee Kuan Yew had the welfare of singapore in mind when he became leader. What we have here is a system where "power corrupts and an absolute power corrupts absolutely". The guy was incorruptible in the face of an absolute power. Filipinos on the other hand were not built of such stern stuff. We have the church to thank for that, since the time of the spanish occupation the church has corrupted us by telling us to give to the poor but not telling the poor themselves to get up and work. To forgive those who have oppressed us and to not punish them. And to rely on god when we have to rely on ourselves.
Your post is laudable in the sense that if we don't know what ails us, we won't be able to get a cure for the sickness. It's unfortunate that the evils that plague our country are not only confined to personalities but also the systems, ideologies, and even global influences that are simply too complex to be intelligently grasped by me of what they are and ramifications. Courting the risk of oversimplification, I venture to say that our sense of altruism is corrupted because there's no support system for being other person-centered and even met with derision that cognitive dissonance led to surrender and apathy. We're looking for a countervailing force that genuinely offers an alternative. Honestly, I don't know where to look for it.

wow.. well said... paki add ang family ni senator Jamby Madrigal at Chiz ESCUDERO...
Funny thing is, when you think about it we all point to the system as being the problem when in fact it is as inanimate as the stones you see on the street. And what is this system anyway? No politician can tell, no street parliamentarian can say except that it's easier to blame the so-called system rather than to blame ourselves. Governance isn't perfect, the constitution isn't perfect but it is also not absolute. The constitution was made to be added upon when needed, taken away when it's too much. Government is not evil, only the people running it. This government is in serious need of an overhaul and just like you said, we don't know where to look for it. All I know is we've got too many laws and not enough of those to enforce them.
correct, Jamby madrigal, daughter of a marcos crony, trying to be clean when in fact she just cannot wash away the sins of her father. Drama queen, Enrile made her cry like a baby. Chiz Escudero, smart enough but is he tough and honorable enough?
I take exception to your implication that it also behooves to reason that we blame ourselves. Why should I take on additional punishment taking part of the blame when I am a victim many times over? I have not yet descended to the level of being masochistic. I must impute the blame to the persons who run the system and benefited from it. You may ask what have I done to alleviate the so-called system? I may reply that the best years of my life I've dedicated to government service in a multiple of roles from being a teacher to the time I retired as a minor officer doing my duties and giving extra time without compensation. As a government employee, I've never done much to improve the core but in my own zone of responsibility, I've given it my best shot but as the saying goes, my best is never good enough. I left the service without being eaten by the system. I have my own share of failings too but who's unsullied?

Ikaw asiong anu bang alam mo? Lolz..
I dont agree that Gloria is good either but I think we all know that FG is the one doing most of the deed and not GMA herself.. And why should'nt marcos be on the top of the list? If Im not mistaken, The Marcos regime is the most corrupt Gov't we ever had.. Sure the Abu's are bad as hell, but if you compare the effect of their actions to what the Marcos regime did to the Philippines and to its people, I think its obvious which one has a bigger and longer lasting effect.
Its sad but I think the problem lies with the Filipino people its self. the people is the one who makes the system, and it is people who controls it, not the other way around. How do you think politicians get their power? is it not the people who give it to them? And how does a politician gain the vote of the people? I think we all know that its not just by doing an impressive job or by keeping a clean record.. Many gain their votes by buying it. How can you buy votes if not a single one is for sale? How can you cheat in an election if no one will help you cheat? My point here is that the people is corrupt as well.
Everyone is dirtied by this system of greed and dysfunction. From the moment we are born to the day we die we carry the responsibilites and burdens of making this country what it is. How can we improve this country if we cannot acknowledge that we ourselves need improving? How can we be great if we continue to choose leaders who further push us into debt? Leaders who lie, cheat and steal (to quote the late Eddie Guerrero)
I credit you for your experience in the bureaucracy of this country but then as a whole if we ourselves do not try to improve this country does not improve too.
"A person is smart, people are stupid"-Agent K; Men in Black
Where does each and everyone of us belong in the line above?
Let me enlighten you perhaps you may be able to understand what I say.
Maybe you weren't born during the time when people were vanishing left and right, where our country was amassing billions in debt, where both president and first lady, friends and family had their hands in the cookie jar. This is a family which had landed itself in he guinness book of world records for thievery, for stealing so much. Believe me these guys are in the guinness book.
THEY HOLD THE WORLD RECORD FOR STEALING BETWEEN $5 TO $10 BILLION (THIS PRICE IS IN DOLLARS) WITH $860.8 MILLION READILY IDENTIFIABLE. If you convert it in today's exchange rate (let's just make it at around P40.00 to $1.00) this would mean they have in their possession P400,000,000,000.00 in accounts hidden in switzerland. That's four hundred billion pesos of OUR MONEY. OUR MONEY. That doesn't even include the people killed over the decades that this family had been in power. One rumor had it that when Imee Marcos was studying in this prestigious ladies college, a schoolmate caught her ire. She was never seen or heard from again. Yes this is a rumor, but look at the others who vanished or got killed, lean alejandro, makliing dulag, evelio javier. The list goes on and on my friend. If they do not deserve being number 1, who does? You?
GMA is an economist, much like Winnie Monsod and her knowledge about the subject is indeed good. But her husband is not as laudable. His name appears in scandal after scandal. But when you look at the upturn in our economy she may have done something good enough to merit my saying that SHE MAY BE GOOD.
Has Erap helped you? May I ask. Has he helped You in any way? Perhaps not. All he did was drink and gamble, and give houses to his countless number of mistresses. In fact has helped each and every one of us?
What about the Abu Sayaf? These people are products of our own siege of their lands. It's a question of economy and their view of how they must live their lives. I will not agree with them and their methods (terrorism and all) but I very well think they have a point. People from the north stole the lands they've lived on for generations down in the south. How would you feel if I stole your land? They have been fighting for recognition since magellan came to town and they are still fighting for it until now.
I hope I had enlightened your feeble, narrow mindset somewhat my friend and hope that you change for this country's sake as I am trying to change too.
Let's make peace not war.
Life was easy back then because everything was cheap and simple. Back then hard work and patience meant something. Maybe you don't understand that. Back then Marcos had too many cronies. Yes there was development, yes he built bridges and streets and expressways, yes he built the film center and all that but at what cost? Billions in debt? This family left us with nothing and took from us everything.
Sorry gloria is not my idol. that's why I put her and her family in my list. If she was my idol do you think I'd put her there?
And by the way if Erap has heart just like you said, do you think he'd have mistresses? Maybe it's his machismo way but then, where would he get all the money he uses to support his women? From us? From jueteng? From the tobacco exise tax? Your answer speaks of what you believe in, but then don't you think it's a little stupid?
That's right I forgot about him :)
haha :) let's just say we BOTH have a point
galing ninyong mag-english!
isa lang masasabi ko.. lahat ng tao ay may masamang gawi! :D
